Sound Bite 101

This is our introductory class and is required before taking other levels. You’ll learn the basics of interviewing and the importance of presenting well to the media. What’s a lav mic? How long should my answers be? What should I do with my hands? Put what you’ve learned into action with a variety of practice interviews.

Pregame Preparation

This intermediate-level course focuses on the media interactions that occur during practice or the off-season. Learn how to control the parameters of the interview so you can be as comfortable and authentic as possible, understanding the storylines to anticipate the line of questioning. The session wraps with a series of practice interviews to put what you’ve learned to the test. Completing Sound Bite 101 is a requirement for taking this class.

Postgame Participation

This intermediate-level course prepares you to face the media immediately after a game or match. Learn what to expect in a winning, and losing, locker room and techniques to keep your cool in a heated situation. Understand what you’ll be asked, and why. This session finishes with practice interviews mimicking a postgame locker room session. Completing Sound Bite 101 is a requirement for taking this class.

Social Studies

This intermediate-level course will help you learn to leverage your social media and present yourself appropriately. Understand the nuances of interviewing with a website or blog with an increased social media presence. This course wraps with a mock interview where the student acts as both interviewer and subject. Completing Sound Bite 101 is a requirement for taking this class.

Long Form Interviewing

This advanced class is a long-form interview in front of a smaller, more intimate group. Parents and coaches are invited to watch each student as they answer questions for 15 minutes. This is followed by a wrap-up and analysis “film study” session. This course also includes a private, 30-minute Zoom session to break down and analyze the interview. Two intermediate-level courses are required to take this class.
